One of the longest musical traditions at the Barns of Rose Hill, dating from the year we opened, and continuing almost every year since, has been the annual visit by the so-called ‘Millwood Blues Allstars’. This rotating cast of superb musicians appears each year in June to teach at a music camp, devoted to music from the Blues and Jazz genre, located at a not-so-secret location on the edge of the Village of Millwood. Each year the camp culminates in this concert at the Barns. This year’s edition promises to be one of the best. Greg Ruby, who hails from Seattle, Washington, has performed at the Barns a number of times with his Quartet, and is one of the best players out there in the Django Reinhardt swing jazz tradition. Scott Ainslie, from up north Vermont way, is a traditional blues man in the Delta and Piedmont styles, and is a wonderful performer and guitarist, with the perfect emotional voice for this style. John Previti is from the DC area, and plays upright bass – oh, how he plays it! You folks of a certain age may remember him as the personal bass player for Danny Gatton, the great guitarist who graced DC stages back in the 70’s and 80’s. He is one of the best! Brian Oberlin is a mandolin player from Grand Rapids, Michigan, who can dazzle in a number of styles – bluegrass, jazz, classical! He can be lyrical he can be machine-gun fast as well! Last but far from least is Robbie Soper, a talented guitarist from the Bay area who plays in a variety of styles -Millwood Blues Weekers consider him their secret weapon. So get ready for a swingin’ night of Blues and beyond, by some of the best musicians you will hear this summer! One thing is sure, after a week down in millwood, they will be warmed up, for sure!
