Habitat for Humanity gets $1,000 litter grant.  The local chaper has received a state grant to support its annual neighborhood revitalization efforts. The Habitat for Humanity of  Winchester-Frederick-Clarke  sent in an application for a grant from the Keep Virginia Beautiful environmental organization in Richmond.  A grant of $1,000 was received in the litter prevention category for its neighborhood revitalization day, which the nonprofit organization holds each year.  In recent years, residential streets in Millwood, Berryville and Winchester have benefited from the cleanup and improvement program.  This year, Habitat is expanding its annual effort by adding "plogging" -- pircking up litter while jogging.  Litter will be collected along a specific route, with volunteer joggers filling as many trash bags as they can during their run.  For more information on Keep Virginia Beautiful, go to keepvirginiabeautiful.org.  (Information in this post taken from The Winchester Star article dated June 20, 2018.)

Kids and Cops campers clearn cars for good cause.  Stationed in front of Shawnee Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department were about 20 jumping, sign-waving kids and a police cruiser with flashing emergency lights.  Their enthusiasm was rewarded by a steady stream of vehicles pulling into the Shawnee parking lot for a free wash in exchange for a charitable donation to the Winchester-Frederick County Law Enforcement Foundation.  The 96 local children who participated in the car wash as part of the Winchester Police Department's 17th annual Kids and Cops Camp were having a blast, spraying each other with water and climbing onto vehicles to make sure roofs get a good scrubbing.  The week long camp is totally funded by private and corporate donations.  Donors provide water and catered lunches and make it possible for the campers to enjoy a variety of activities.  For example the kids and counselors are being driven to Inwood, WV today to enjoy the water park at JayDee's Family Fun Center, all thanks to community sponsorships.  (For more information, see The Winchester Star article on June 21, 2018.)
