Multiple Choice Sparks Conversation on Education and Workforce Readiness
Top of Virginia Regional Chamber recently welcomed business leaders, educators, community partners, and regional stakeholders for a screening of Multiple Choice, a documentary that explores the connection between education, workforce development, and career readiness. The film challenges traditional views of success and highlights the many pathways available to students as they prepare for life after graduation.
Centered on the innovative work of the Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center and the leadership of Dr. Jason Van Heukelum, the documentary showcases how career-based learning can be integrated with traditional academics to prepare students for both college and the workforce. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and real-world learning opportunities, students gain valuable skills while exploring careers in fields ranging from healthcare and information technology to manufacturing and the skilled trades.
Following the screening, attendees participated in discussions focused on workforce development, career and technical education, and the importance of connecting students with local industries. Conversations emphasized the value of collaboration between schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to strengthen the workforce pipeline across the region.
The event reinforced the Chamber’s commitment to supporting educational innovation, leadership development, and workforce readiness. Multiple Choice serves as a powerful reminder that when students are given opportunities to explore their interests and engage in meaningful real-world experiences, they are better prepared for successful futures—and help build a stronger community in the process.
