Invisible Warriors Film Screening
In celebration of Women's History Month, join us on “National Rosie the Riveter Day” (March 21) for the launch of the first ever “Rosie the Riveter Tour,” a virtual global screening of Invisible Warriors: African American Women in World War II. The filmmaker, Gregory Cooke, will also be joining us for a virtual Q&A that evening.
This film features the pioneers – a diverse group of African American “Rosie the Riveters” – whose courage, patriotism, and faith drove them to abandon their oppressive lives as domestics and sharecroppers to conquer new frontiers that ultimately changed employment possibilities for all future generations of Black women. Watch as these heroines recount their wartime memories, recalling their battles against racism at home, Nazism abroad, and sexism everywhere.
Overcoming the Great Depression, Jim Crow, sexual degradation, and workplace discrimination, this group of some 600,000 women broke down gender and racial barriers and became a critical part of the war effort. Black “Rosie the Riveters” were part of a sisterhood of 20 million women who built America’s “arsenal of democracy,” without whom the United States could not have won World War II.
Do you know a present-day “Rosie?” Contact us to recognize a woman employed in the manufacturing industry and/or the government (e.g. welders, police officers, bus drivers).
