So what can you expect at the annual St. Mary’s Pig Roast Family Day? Picture this...???? ???It’s 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 12th. The gigantic shade tent is up, and folks are already tricklin' in, unloading and picking a spot. The kids take off barefoot across the grass for the bounce house ?? and then run free to the face painting ?? before you can holler their name. You’ll catch up with old friends you saw at the store ?? and meet new ones you’ll see next Sunday. Us grown folks sit a spell, enjoying the great toe-tappin’ music ?? from Shenco Ukulele Circle and the Rinard Band ft. Jamie Thomas. In the distance a low rhythmic rumble vibrates through the ground—The lot comes alive as the cruise-in crowd arrives, one by one. ??????????Old trucks next to showroom classics. Motorcycles lined up beside hot rods. The common thread? Wheels and history. Whether it's engines with mods, muscle cars or tractors. Their owners have a great story to tell and beam with pride as the music continues to play. Wait! What is that delicious smell? ?? You let your nose carry you over to the Compassion Community Fund shelter to grab some brunch, knowing anything you spend there goes directly towards helping those in need in our community, and swap some stories with the friendly faces. ?? The neatly organized auction items catch your eyes ?? before our fast-talkin’ auctioneer, Jordan Rinker, starts the bidding at 2:00.?? You see that all the money from this year’s auction will be split between two farmers who feed this valley, year after year — ?? Sonny Hovatter & Perry Pitsenbarger! ??????? As usual, Jay Ross’s pulled pork BBQ is showcased as the main dish ??, and all you have to do is bring a side to share. Laughter echoes from the mystery “fishing pond” ??, and apple bobbin', friendly competition is being had at the cornhole boards and volleyball area, hilarity is ensuing at the rolling pin toss (some trying to hold their title), and the anticipation of tasty treats won at the bake walk ?? really gets the participants motivated! ??Then you notice the light of the sky growing softer, and hymns of praise fill the air ??. You hear a reassuring sermon of God’s faithfulness and remember how blessed you are for the gift of His love.?? The sun is setting, and you move your chair to the fire pit that starts to crackle as it's being lit for s’mores ??, while the telescope waits for its discovering eye. ?? It’s not about “the way it used to be.” It’s about the way it STILL IS—when this community comes together. Just good ol’ clean family fun! ??St. Mary’s Pine Pig Roast | Sept 12th 7103 S Middle Rd, Mt Jackson | Bring a side dish.??Bring a lawn chair, because we're doing it again! ??
