The Barns of Rose Hill is a nonprofit community arts center in Berryville, Virginia, dedicated to enriching lives through the arts, education, and community. We present concerts, exhibitions, classes, films, lectures, and community programs year-round, and operate the Berryville-Clarke County Visitors Center.
We are seeking a temporary Arts & Operations Assistant to join our team part-time this winter, from approximately October 20, 2026, through March 1, 2027.

This is a fully on-site position offering exposure to many aspects of nonprofit arts administration and day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate is a student or early-career professional interested in the arts, nonprofit organizations, or event production who enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Regular evening and weekend availability is required; the schedule will vary from week to week.

About the Position

The Arts & Operations Assistant will provide general administrative, customer service, program, and operational support. The position is well suited to someone who is organized, dependable, personable, comfortable learning new things, and willing to pitch in wherever needed to help the Barns' programs and operations run smoothly.
Responsibilities will include:
  • Provide support before, during, and after programs, including assisting staff, volunteers, artists, and performers, greeting and assisting patrons, and helping ensure programs run smoothly.
  • Provide customer service by answering phones, responding to general inquiries, assisting visitors, and processing sales and donations.
  • Assist with general administrative and clerical work, including filing, scanning, data entry, digital record-keeping, and the secure organization and digitization of confidential donor and financial records.
  • Provide administrative support to the Executive Director and other staff, including database maintenance, meeting coordination and scheduling, and preparation for Board and committee meetings.
  • Assist with setup and striking for concerts, exhibitions, classes, and other programs, including moving tables, chairs, and equipment.
  • Provide occasional coverage in the Berryville-Clarke County Visitors Center, open 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
  • Assist with mailings and mail handling, including preparing and sending mailings and picking up and dropping off mail as needed.
  • Assist with rental administration and coordination, including preparing rental contracts and invoices using established templates.
  • Maintain an inventory of concessions and general supplies and assist with stocking.
  • Assist with light cleaning, laundry, and resetting of spaces between programs and other activities.
  • Perform other administrative, program, and operational tasks as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Interest in the arts, nonprofit operations, or event production.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Dependability and the ability to reliably work scheduled evening and weekend programs.
  • Initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Proficiency with standard office software and technology.
  • Experience with CRM/database systems is a plus.
  • Education or experience in nonprofit management, arts administration, event production, or a related field is preferred.
  • Audio/visual or event production experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements

The position requires the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and assist with program setup, striking, light cleaning, and other physical tasks associated with supporting programs and maintaining the facility.
