About Us

The SPCA of Winchester, Frederick, and Clarke Counties strives to strengthen the human-animal bond and safeguard animals in transition. The local SPCA has been serving the community since 1907. It serves as a source (public) shelter for Winchester City limits and a destination (private) shelter for Frederick and Clarke Counties. They have received the designation of being a no kill facility since 2014. Each year, they rededicate themselves to that commitment. They are currently operating at a 97% save rate. The SPCA has a strong commitment, supported by a large financial investment to reduce the unwanted pet population in the Commonwealth of Virginia. To this end, every pet adopted from the SPCA is vaccinated, micro-chipped, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. In fiscal year 2019, the SPCA provided services to 1,193 homeless pets to include 724 cats, 435 dogs, and 30 other types of small domestic animals. In addition to serving homeless animals, the SPCA of Winchester, Frederick, and Clarke works to prevent pet homelessness. Last year, over 365 families representing over 1,000 pets were provided pet food assistance through the SPCA’s food pantry. Two hundred and fifty owned pets were spayed/neutered and vaccinated through the SPCA’s partnership with a low-cost veterinary clinic. The SPCA values the human-animal bond and envisions a community in which no loved pet must be surrendered to a shelter for financial reasons. The SPCA partners with local businesses, schools, and civic groups for a variety of projects/
